II.	
The examination will be conducted in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums. Candidates shall not be permitted to change 
the language medium indicated in their application at a later stage.
III.	
A candidate must answer all questions in the examination in one and the same language.
07.	 Syllabus of the Written Examination

This question paper consists of multiple-choice questions designed to assess the candidate's 
logical thinking, analytical skills, and decision-making capacity.
(Duration 01 hour – Total marks 100)
2.	 Subject related

1)	 Construction of Buildings
I.	
Brick masonry and stone masonry (joints, corners, arches, damp-proof courses, lintels, 
and corbels)
II.	
Types of mortar mixes, cement plastering, and concrete mixing.
III.	
Various types of jointing, pointing, plastering, rendering, cutting chases, fixing wall 
plates, and bracing.
IV.	
Various types of roofing (tile roofing, asbestos roofing, corrugated roofing sheets, 
aluminium roofing sheets, Sinhala tiles, and flat concrete roofs).
2)	 Painting
I.	
Various types of paint finishes, wall coatings, timber finishing, varnishing, and 
anti-corrosive painting.
3)	 Roads
I.	
Setting out and construction of culverts and retaining walls, and knowledge of the 
materials used.
II.	
Preparation of road foundations, stone laying, tarring, gravel surfacing, and surface 
water drainage.
4)	 Basic Water Supply and Drainage
I.	
Installation of water supply and waste pipes for small buildings, construction of 
soakage pits, water-sealed sanitary fittings, water tanks, and wells etc.
5)	 Electrical Engineering Process
 (Duration 03 hours – Total marks 100)
08. Interview
A number of candidates equal to the expected number of recruits will be called for the general interview, in the order 
of merit based on total marks from among those who score 40% or more for each subject in the written examination. 
No marks will be awarded at the interview, and it will be conducted solely to verify the certificates and physical 
qualifications of the candidates.
