	 (b)	 Professional Qualifications:
	 	
Having been successfully followed and obtained 
a certificate for a 2 1/2 - year technical course 
recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational 
Education Commission.
	
	 (c)	 Physical Fitness:
	
i.	 Every candidate must possess sufficient 
physical and mental fitness to serve in any part 
of Sri Lanka and to perform the duties of the 
post.
	
ii.	 Height must be at least 05 feet 04 inches.
	
iii.	 Must pass the 6'/6' 6'/6' vision test.
	
	 (d)	 Other Qualifications:
	
i.	 	Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
	
ii.	 	Applicants must be of excellent character.
	
iii.	 	Only male applicants are eligible to apply.
	
iv.	 	Must be not less than 18 years and not more 
than 35 years of age.
(Those whose date of birth falls on or after 
28.09.1991 and on or before 28.09.2008 are 
eligible to apply.)
Note - All the above qualifications mentioned 
must have been completed in full as at 
28.09.2026, which is the closing date for 
applications.
05.	 Method of Recruitment:
	
An open written competitive examination will be 
conducted for applicants who have fulfilled the 
qualifications specified in (04) above. From among 
the applicants who pass the written test, the General 
Manager of Railways will decide the number of 
candidates to be called for the ordinary interview. At 
the interview, verification will be conducted to check 
whether the qualifications mentioned in this notification 
published in accordance with the recruitment procedure 
are fulfilled and whether the physical fitness is met, and 
recruitment will be made for the number of vacancies 
existing at the time of calling for applications. No 
recruitment will be made from waiting lists here.
06.	 Examination Procedure for the Recruitment Test:
	
i.	 Scheme of Examination:
	
(a)	 The examination will be conducted in 
Sinhala and Tamil media.
	
(b)	 Candidates must sit for all question 
papers in the medium through which 
they obtained the qualifications requested 
under (04) above. It is not allowed to 
change the medium applied for later.
	
ii.	 Subjects of the Examination:
	
Technical Knowledge - Time 02 hours. Marks: 
100.
Pass Mark - 50 marks.
	
iii.	 Syllabus:
	
Simple knowledge regarding machinery and their 
applications parallel to the duties of the Post of 
Engine Driver Assistant will be tested.
	
iv.	 Selection Procedure:
	
Candidates who pass this examination with the 
highest marks will be called for the interview to 
verify qualifications. No marks will be awarded 
at this interview; only the verification of whether 
the qualifications mentioned in the application 
calling notification are fulfilled and testing of 
physical fitness will be carried out. If the relevant 
qualifications are fulfilled, recruitment will be 
made for the number of vacancies existing at the 
time of calling for applications according to the 
merit order of the written test.
	
v.	 Examination Results:
	
In terms of paragraph 06 (iv) of the Gazette 
Notification, the results sheet prepared according 
to the total marks merit of the candidates who 
scored the highest marks will be handed over to 
the General Manager of Railways. All candidates 
who sat for the examination will also be informed 
of their results individually.
07.	 Examination Fee:
	
The examination fee is Rs. 1,200. as It can be paid 
at any People's Bank branch on or before the closing 
date for applications to be credited to Account No. 
176-100129027-313 of the General Manager of 
Railways at the People's Bank Town Hall Branch. 
The receipt issued for this must be affixed firmly in
