Open  Competitive  Examination  for  recruitment  
to  the  post  of  Engine  Driver  Assistant - Grade 
III of Sri  Lanka Railway  Department - 2026
APPLICATIONS are invited from Sri Lankan male 
citizens who are not less than 18 years and not more than 
35 years of age as at 28.09.2026, to fill 80 vacancies in 
the post of Engine Driver Assistant in Sri Lanka Raiways. 
The closing date for applications is 28.09.2026. The towns 
where examination centers are expected to be established to 
conduct this examination and the town numbers are shown 
in the schedule 1. The upper header of the application form 
should be completed according to this list of town numbers. 
Requests for changing the town applied for later will not 
be allowed. However, if a sufficient number of applicants 
have not applied for a particular town, those applicants 
will be directed to an examination center in an adjacent 
town. Nevertheless, if a sufficient number of applicants 
have not applied to establish examination centers in all or 
most of the proposed towns, the Director General of the Sri 
Lanka Institute of Development Administrative will make 
arrangements to conduct the examination in Colombo only.

01.	 Post for which applications are invited:
	
Engine Driver Assistant Grade III.
02.	 Nature of duties of the post:	
Duties will be performed in accordance with the duty 
list assigned to the post of Engine Driver Assistant 
for the task of train operation, in a manner supportive 
of the functions of the Engine Driver/Engine Driver 
(Shunting) of Sri Lanka Railways.
03.	 Salary Scale : MT 1 - 2025:
	
Rs. 50,090 - 10x540 - 11x630 - 10x1,010 - 10x1,190 - 
84,420/- (Salary conversion will be made in accordance 
with Public Administration Circular 10/2025).	
	04.	 (a)	 Educational Qualifications:
	 	
Having been passed the General Certificate of 
Education (Ordinary Level) Examination in six 
(06) subjects in one sitting with Credit passes in 
(Sinhala/Tamil/English) Language, Mathematics, 
Science, and one other subject.
