12.	 Examination System and Medium of Examination -
(a)	 The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English media.
(b)	 An applicant must appear for the examination in the language medium in which   they obtained their educational 
qualifications or in an official language.
Note:
	
(i)	 The term "qualifications" in (b) above refers to the educational qualifications stated in paragraph 5 (b).
	
(ii)	 An applicant must answer all question papers in the examination in the same language medium.
	
(iii)	 An applicant will not be permitted to change the language medium mentioned in their application later.
13.	 Method of Recruitment :-
13.1	 Written Examination
A written examination consisting of two (02) question papers comprising the following subjects will be held. 
The subjects and the minimum marks required to pass each subject are as follows:

Applicants must sit for all question papers.
13.2	 Syllabus for Written Examination
01.	 Intelligence Test
	
A multiple-choice question paper designed to test logical reasoning, quick decision - ability, numerical 
problems, mathematical problems, language fragments, tables, flowcharts, pictures, and graphs. All 
questions must be answered. (Time: 01 hour)
02.	 Language Ability
	
A paper consisting of short answers, essays, and structured questions designed to test the ability to express 
ideas accurately and clearly, report writing ability, correct use of grammar, comprehension ability, and the 
capacity for office correspondence. All questions must be answered. (Time: 02 hours)
13.3	 Structured Interview
A required number of applicants who qualify by obtaining 50% or more marks separately each of the two subjects 
in the written examination will be called for the structured interview in order of highest merit. Recruitment will 
be made according to the order of highest total marks obtained in the written examination and the structured 
interview combined.
A structured interview will be conducted by an Interview Panel appointed by the General Manager of Railways 
according to the following procedure. The maximum marks obtainable there is fifty (50).
