Applicants must appear for the preliminary test conducted by a panel appointed by the General Manager of Railways. 
A medical certificate, recommending that the applicant is not unfit to face the preliminary test, must be submitted at that 
instance using the form attached to the calling letter, bearing the recommendation of a medical practitioner registered with 
the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
1.2	 Written Examination -
	
Following the physical fitness assessment test, this examination will be held in Sinhala, Tamil and English 
language media. The applicant will not be allowed to change the language medium of their application later.

1.3	 Dates for conducting the Physical Fitness Assessment Test and the Written Examination -
	
The physical fitness assessment test and this examination will be held in Colombo only. The General Manager of 
Railways has the power to posture or cancel this examination.
02. 	 Number of Vacancies is 256 (239 for Railway Security- Male and 17 for Female). In an instance where the number 
of applicants obtaining equal marks for the final vacancy or final few vacancies exceeds the number of vacancies, the 
decision regarding filling that number of vacancies will be determined according to the orders of the Public Service 
Commission pursuant to Section 92 of the Procedural Rules.
03.	 Conditions of Service :-
3.1	 A selected applicant will be appointed to the post of Security Officer subject to the general conditions governing 
appointments in the Public Service, the terms and conditions laid down in the Scheme of Recruitment of the Railway 
Security Service, any amendments made thereto or to be made hereafter, the provisions of the Establishments 
Code and Financial Regulations, and the provisions of the Procedural Rules of the Public Service Commission.
3.2	 This post is permanent. Subject to any future policy decisions taken by the Government regarding the pension 
scheme.
3.3	 This appointment is subject to a probationary period of three years. Upon recruitment to the post of Railway 
Security in the Railway Security Service of the Sri Lanka Railway Department, the candidate must pass the first 
Efficiency Bar Examination as mentioned in the Scheme of Recruitment within 03 years.
3.4	 Pursuant to Public Administration Circular No. 18/2020 and its ancillary circulars, the prescribed Official 
Language Proficiency must be acquired within 05 years of joining the post.
3.5	 The General Manager of Railways reserves the right to cancel the appointments of applicants who fail to assume 
duties of the post offered to them on the prescribed date, or who refuse or evade assuming duties in a position or 
area to which they have been assigned.
