Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment 
to the Posts of Transport Costing Officer- Grade 
III in the Associate Officer Service Category in Sri 
Lanka Railway Department – 2026
APPLICATIONS are invited from the qualified Sri Lankan 
citizens for the Open Competitive Examination for the 
recruitment to the Grade III in the posts of Transport Costing 
Officer in the Associate Officer Service Category in Sri 
Lanka Railway Department.
	
	
	
.
1.1	 By this Examination, recruitment will be made to the 
Grade III in the post of Transport Costing Officer in 
the Associate Officer Service Category in Sri Lanka 
Railway Department. 
1.2	 The closing date of calling application is on 
14/09/2026.
Note: The complaints that an application or a related letter 
is lost or delayed in the post will not be considered. The 
applicants themselves should be liable for any loss or 
damage incurred due to delay in submitting applications till 
the last date.
Written Examination: 
The examination will consist of two papers:	 	
	
	
	
i.	 Intelligence Test
	
ii.	 Costing & Statistics
Date of Examination: This Examination will be held in 
the month of September 2026. The General Manager- 
Railways reserves the right to postpone or cancel this 
Examination.	
02.	 It will be made 02 appointments. If there are candidates 
with equal marks exceeding the number of vacancies, 
the filling of vacancies will be decided by the order of 
the Public Service Commission as per the clause 91 in 
the Minutes of Procedural Rules.
03.	 Conditions of Service :
3.1	 A selected candidate will be appointed to 
the Grade III in the service on the general 
conditions governing appointments in the Public 
Service and on the terms and conditions set 
out in the recruitment procedure in Associate 
Officer Service Category in Sri Lanka Railway 
Department, approved on 19.04.2016 by the 
Public Service Commission No. PSC/EST/04-
01-43/02/2015  and subject to any amendments 
made or to be made hereafter to that procedure, 
provisions in the establishment code and Financial 
Regulations and of the Minutes of procedural 
rules of the Public Service Commission published 
in the Extraordinary Gazette of the Democratic 
Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka No. 2310/29 of 
14.12.2022.	
	
	
	
3.2	 This post is permanent. You should be liable for 
any policy decision taken by the Government in 
future on the pension scheme you are entitled.
3.3	 This post is subjected to a probation period of 
three years. The First Efficiency Bar Examination 
should be passed within 03 years from the date of 
appointment to the Grade III in the post Transport 
Costing Officer in Sri Lanka Railway Department 
as cited in the Recruitment Procedure.	
	
	
	
	
	
	
3.4	 It is required to achieve the proficiency of the due 
official language /languages within five years after 
the recruiting to the post, in terms of the provisions 
of the public Administration Circular No.01/2014 
& consequent circulars.
3.5	 The General Manager- Railways has authority to 
cancel the appointments of Candidates who fail to 
assume duty on the due date & or refuse or evade 
to take up duties in a post or in an area they are 
appointed.
	
	
	
	
04.	 Monthly Salary scale:
In terms of the schedule II of the public Administration 
circular 10/2025 dated 25.03.2025 the Salary scale 
relevant to this post is Rs.53,060-10 * 800 -11 *1,190 
-10 *1,320 - -5*1,350 - Rs.94,100 / = (MN-4 - 2025). 
You will be paid salary as per the provisions of the said 
circular as mentioned in schedule III thereof. In addition 
to this, you will also be entitled to other allowances 
given by the Government to the Government Officers 
from time to time.
05.	 Recruitment qualifications/ experience :	
	
i.	 Be a citizen in Sri Lanka
	
ii.	 Have a sound moral character 
	
iii.	 Be physically & mentally fit to serve in any part 
in the island
